Do Waist Trainer Only Work On Celebrities?

Fashion Waist Trainer, Body Shaper And Cincher -Black | Jumia Nigeria

The battle of trying to stay in shape is one that I have been fighting for the longest, I mean, I went from being a size 6 to size 14 in the blink of an eye and I have been fighting to remain between 12 and 10 at the least, that is the battle.

Between 2014 and 2015, I weighed between 60-64 kg with a body that could fit into a size 8 dress comfortably, by 2016 I weighed 90 kg with a body that could fit into a 14 dress. It was a sad moment in my life, a moment where I lost myself simply let myself get swallowed up by what seemed like a series of misfortune in my life.

Before the end of 2016 however, I had dropped to 80 kg with a body that bore bruises (Stretchmarks) from some of life's most unfair events, story for another day.

Since that time till now, I have consciously made attempts to get my body in shape, in-between that, I tried various types of tummy belts which i mostly purchased online. Every time a new belt was delivered to me, it just never met my expectations so I stopped buying them all together. I have equally gotten so many recommendations about slimming teas and other oral substances that could help with the weight loss, but I strongly fear anything that must be drank, eaten or injected for such purposes especially with the fact that there are a million and one online vendures making or selling them. I just fear that since majority of them are not registered with NAFDAC it may just be self destruction if I consume something I cannot account for should complications set in.

The last waist trainer I purchased early this year was exactly as the picture displayed above, the only difference was that mine came in yellow. I purchased it based on recommendation from a friend and for the next couple of weeks, I was thrilled to wear it for every activity. My sister in-law also wore it sometimes and we both loved how snatched it made us look always. Our joy was cut short when I wore it and the strings or should I say plastic that held the belt in place began to pop out. With this event, the belt was rendered "useless" because it could obviously not serve the purpose for which it was it was purchased.

Now, when you visit the social media page or websites of companies and brands that make or sell waist trainers, you see images or videos of celebrities endorsing them as the best, they share success stories from "people" who have used and achieved results from using their products.

With various "testimonies" from the same products I have tried for the past five years without any results, it leaves me asking if these waist trainers only work on celebrities.

I honestly have not met anyone who has achieved any of the body changes and snatched waist we are promised by these waist trainers. They only seem to give temporary results, like snatching your waist while you are wearing them and immediately they are taken off, the waist goes back to it's natural shape.

I might just be wrong, really. But it will be nice to see "real life" people who have achieved their waist goal by using waist trainers, it is naturally easier to relate with normal people than celebrities who could only be endorsing products because they are getting paid to do so.

Right now, I am thinking of investing in waist trainers again, but I cannot afford to keep wasting money on result-less  items,  so, do waist trainers only work on celebrities? Share your experiences.

With Love,
Nina 💙

  1. Dear Nina, I must commend your effort to stay in shape using waist trainers despite several failed attempt. I don't have a waist trainer experience, but I have a plus size model cousin that lost weight doing daily exercise.

For her, consistency was the key and she also controlled her food intake. I strongly believe this formula is guaranteed to get you the result you desire.

I look forward to hearing your testimony soon.

    Best regards.

Now You Know Life.

The beauty of being a child is not knowing responsibility. Your survival is not in your hands, neither is the survival of your loved ones. You simply exist! At the stage of adolescence, you roam with pride of quick knowledge. You think you are wiser and "woke" compared to your parent or guardian. Time and again, you get into situations that give you the false feeling of independence and responsibility towards decisions that affect you; how you want to dress, the name you'd rather go by, the hairstyle that befits the contour of your face, the friends you keep. These and more create a falsehood of the knowledge of life and all that it entails. But isn't life humbling to those who think they know it all? A step into adulthood is the most exciting, yet horrific reality an individual can face depending on several circumstances. You have gone from knowing it all, to being plainly confused. Now there are expectations and responsibilities you might not have been warned about ...

When Do We Become The Boring Half?

So lately I have been thinking seriously on marital issues and while it is not the first time I'm thinking about such deep maters, my focus, or should I call it recent concern, has been about boring couples, actually, boring wives. After allowing work take the better of me for years, I began to socialise more early last year. I went out more to places like clubs, the beach, swimming and birthday parties of friends. In that time, I discovered that I really knew how to have fun and not just be the workaholic I was slowly turning into then. Going out mostly at night exposed me to a lot. The nightlife in Lagos is perhaps just as busy as the day life only that this time, people were 'working hard' to relax and enjoy the money they sweated for. It is usually where you see the Queens and Kings of the night, gracing the streets, bars and clubs to entertain the mere mortals of the day. Honestly, it is always fun. But looking back at the calibre of people I have had the opportunity ...

Soro Soke With Your Full Chest

What a time to be a Nigerian youth, what a time indeed to be alive. The past week has seen Nigerian youth in their most unified form, speaking up, walking the walk and seeking the exact same thing, an end to police brutality and the devil's arm of the Nigerian police force known as SARS. The slang "Soro Soke" was originated by popular Yoruba actress Toyin Afolayan also known as Lola Idije. The phrase means "Speak Louder", the slang got viral on Twitter when a fan wrote it on one of FC Bayern Munich's post and has now become one of the most famous slangs used in the ongoing protest by Nigerian youths. I am extremely proud of the progress of my generation, the so-called "lazy youth" have made. For years the Nigerian government have lotted, embezzled funds, trampled on the constitutional right of the citizens and did so, with so much recklessness, showing no concern how their actions and inaction affects the lives of people. While this protest stemmed...
